Strategic Projects
In many businesses today change and growth is achieved through projects, for example a major cost improvement initiative, an acquisition or divestment, a critical sales opportunity or a new product launch.
Although these are easily seen as projects and they have many characteristics in common with engineering and construction projects they also have critical characteristics which are significantly different, for example:
- High levels of uncertainty about the starting point, i.e., what is the problem? Why are we doing this project?
- High levels of uncertainty about the end point.
- Dependence on multiple stakeholders where there may be no contractual relationships.
Strategy and Structures can help you in two ways:
- Help to develop and embed a process for strategic projects, or,
- Provide project leadership for such projects, for example where they cross business unit boundaries or where it is not appropriate to build and retain such project management skills within the business.
